Ferienart Resort and Spa (027-958-1900, fax 027-958-1905; €€€; photo left) The best hotel in town. For a splurge, try the suite with round bed, white marble bath and sauna.

Allalin (027-957-1815, fax 027-957-3115; €€) This three-star hotel is really four-star quality with hand-carved wooden furniture. It is at the far end of town from the lifts, but has ski storage facilities at the lifts. They have some of the best food in town.

Mischabel (027-957-2118, fax 027-957-2461; €€€) At the entrance of the town, about a seven-minute walk to most lifts.

Au Chalet Cairn (027-9571550; fax 027-9573380; €€€; photo below) A rustic gem with only 16 rooms and a traditional atmosphere.

Hotel Waldesruh (027-958-6464, fax 027-958-6465; €€) Near the Plattjen and Längfluh gon-dola ground stations. Caters to families and has a wonderful, affordable restaurant.

Hotel Marmotte (027-957-2852, fax 027-957-1987; €–€€) This hotel shines because of its owner, Karl Dreier, who makes everyone feel at home. Karl, who doubles as the chef, cooks some of the best hotel food we’ve eaten. There is a free ski storage arrangement with the Waldesruh Hotel opposite the Felskinn lift, and a free baby sitting arrangement with Hotel Alphubel, a good hotel for children.

Derby (027-957-2345, fax 027-9571246; €€) is a good family hotel near Felskinn or Plattjen.

Hotel Europa (027-9589600; fax 027-9589696; €) Small hotel for those planning to do some hiking on the Hannig.


Budget
Mühle (027-957-2676, fax 027-957-2677; €) is a small, basic hotel.

Feehof (027-9579700; fax 027-9589701; €) (Garni only) Inexpensive. No telephone, no public restaurant and no credit cards accepted.

Apartments, condominiums, flats
Apartments are the way to go if you really want to save money. Saas-Fee has about 1,500 chalets and apartments for rent. Write to the tourist office and ask for apartments that will be available when you plan to be in Saas-Fee. Include de-tails on the number of people in your party. The office will send a list of available apartments and a map showing locations. Select the apart-ment you want and write to the tourist board or to the owner. The reservation line for apartments is 027-958-1868.

The apartments normally include linen and kitchen utensils. You will be charged a visitor’s tax, and there may be an extra charge for the electricity and heat you use.

Expect to pay €20–€35 per person per night, based on location and the number of people sharing the apartment.
