Megève and the neighboring villages draw many nonskiers who walk through-out the area. Walkways are better kept than most you’ll encounter at other Alpine resorts. Stores are perfect for window shop-ping, but prices can destroy bud-gets. Day outings to Chamonix or Geneva are popular—both are only about an hour away.

Megève has an excellent sports center with skating, swimming in your choice of two covered pools, saunas, fitness rooms, covered tennis and golf practice ranges, indoor climbing wall and curling. Rates for adults for the Sports Center are normally €4.60 for skating and swimming. For children, the entrance fee is €3.60. Tennis courts can be reserved by calling 450 21 15 71 and will cost €13 per court-hour or €60 for six coupons which are good for six hours of court time.

The outdoor skating rink in the center of town costs €4.60 for adults and €3.60 for kids. If you are lucky you may have a chance to enjoy ice bumper cars.

Paragliding is available through the “Compagnie des Guides” (450 21 55 11) for €65. They also offer snowshoeing. Ask for the trek full of breathtaking views once traveled by the Romans. (450 21 55 11). Sightseeing airplane flights over the Mont Blanc range are also popular and cost about €29 per person for a 10-minute flight to €116 for a 40-minute flight. The bowling alley (450 21 18 40) is a three-minute drive from the center of town, right next to the major supermarket.

There are a variety of dogsledding adventures (450 21 37 03) for those who want to just sit back and enjoy the ride and those who want to grab hold of the reigns.

An annual “polo sur neige” tournament that takes place during the second week in January. In mid-March players travel from all over the world to play in the only golf tournament held in the snow. The golf course opens to the public in the summer.
