Dining
First head to the Trofana Royal (05444-600; fax 05444-60090; photo left) for its five-star restaurant, which is considered one of the best in all of Europe. The chef here was selected as Chef of the Year in Austria in 2000. Try the deer with mountain berries and chestnut-filled ravioli. Finish up with soufflé made with Williams pear schnapps. Make reservations early.
Also recommended is the traditional kitchen of the Goldener Adler (05444-5217). Locals also highly recommend the Trofana Alm (after après-ski is over; 05444-602) for good international cooking (and pizzas as well). The Hotel Post restaurant (05444-5232) is elegant and sumptuous. Try the authentic-looking Kitzloch (05444-5618), built 15 years ago out of 300-year-old logs, for traditional food. It serves traditional food. In fact, its so traditional that the spread for the bread is gramnel schmalz, which translates to fat, but it tastes good.Yscla (05444-5275) has a good French and local menu. Dont ignore the on-mountain dining when joining Ischgls regulars for a long lunch break. Recommended stops include the Alp Trida in Switzerland for the excellent food and the Eisbar Gampen on the Austrian side for the fun.
In Galtür, be sure to eat once at the Rössle (ask for the local schnapps), Landle and at Zum Silbertaler. The Fluchthorn also serves affordable meals.
In Samnaun, enjoy a meal at the Hotel Post. Its pricey but one of the best in town. |
