Cross-Country and snowshoeing
Cross-country ski season stretches from November to May in Courmayeur.
Pistes du Val Ferret
This course encompasses two valleys at the foot of Mount Blanc. The groomed trails begin in Planpincieux (1580 meters) and wind down to Lavachey in the valley, but if your up for a challenge you can ski down to Arp Nouaz. There is plenty of terrain and route choices. The course contains trails that are 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 kilometers long.
Piste de Entrèves
This 3.2-km circuit is rated blue. The École de ski Monte Bianco (Monte Bianco Ski School Monte) and the École de ski et snowboard Courmayeur (Courmayeur Ski and Snowboard School) use this easy/intermediate area to teach their classes.
Piste de Dolonne
Slightly longer than the Piste de Entrèves, this 4-km blue-rated course is also good ground for an intermediate or a beginner skier to challenge himself/herself. The ski schools also use this area to practice.
Pistes de Arpy
This area has trails which range from 2 to 7.5 kilometers long and is the most scenic of all the areas. The trails loop around the Valley of Arpy, which is 7 kilometers from Morgex down the Colle San Carlo road, and past forests filled with fir and larch trees, a pristine river and 18th century stone houses. The Foyer de Fond in the Youth Inn (l'Auberge de la Jeunesse) has nice facilities including coatrooms, showers, waxing huts, a bar and a restaurant. Children who aren't interested in skiing can choose either stay in the game room or go bobsledding and tobagganning.
