The following restaurants come recommended by locals. For a special night, take the sleigh ride up to the Restaurant Alpenblick (0813771428; photo right) above Arosa and enjoy a special meat platter that is grilled at the table.
In Hotel Arve Central (081 378 52 52), the ArvenStube serves light, fresh gourmet meals made with regional and seasonal ingredients. Their fish menu changes daily. The atmosphere is filled with Swiss-German charm.
Gspan (081-3771494) offers traditonal fair. Treat yourself to lunch on its large, sunlit terrace while enjoying the mountain backdrop. The hotel also has a smaller Stubli appropriately named, Gspanli (081-3787622) that overflows with woodsy atmosphere and the meet is cooked over wooden coals.
Bündner Stübli, in the Golf- & Sporthotel Hof Maran (081-3785151), is a cozy, rustic place that was originally built in the 18th century. It specializes in fondues and raclettes.
Also try Stüva Cuolm (081-3788890) and Locanda (081-3788080) for fine pricey gourmet dinners.
The Pratschli Stall (081-3788080; left) next to the Pratschli Hotel serves fondue and raclette in a very rustic atmosphere. On the other side of the hotel the Burestubli (081-3771838) is another atmospheric, traditional restaurant that also organizes fondue and raclette parties. For both restaurants sled can be reserved and the guests can slide back down into town along a prepared sledding run.
Down in the village along the main street try Le Bistro (081-3786868; right), considered one of the better restaurants in town. The daily menu will cost about Sfr37.
Hotel Grischuna (081-3771701) serves great lunches with a specialty of wild game.
The Restaurant Orelli (081-3771208; below) adjacent to the Hotel Asora serves some of the most affordable daily specialy for lunch. The dinner menu is not a bargain but the food is excellent.
Cuc ulouche (081-3775505) is a bargain favorite of the young set and snowboarders. They have large and very inexpensive portions. The food is Spanish and Mexican influenced and Brazilian capirinhas are served that add to the merriment. Try everything from spare ribs to burritos and tapas.
On the slopes the best spot to eat is the Carmennahütte beneath the Weisshorn. Get there early or late it seems to always be crowded. The Tschuggenhutte is another favorite and is normally packed during lunch. The Sattelhütte is good as well with smaller crowds.
