The nearest railway station is in Grenoble. From there buses are available to Alpe d'Huez.

By car: Head to Grenoble, then follow the signs to Briancon and Stations de l'Oisans. There are few signs for the actual resorts. The drive from Grenoble to Vizille is flat, but then the highway through the deep mountain valley to Bourg d'Oisans along Rte. 91 is breathtaking. From Bourg d'Oisans take the 21 hairpin turns up to Alpe d'Huez.

Getting around: Once at the resort, the restaurants and hotels are relatively closely packed. Those staying in the Old Village section will have some steep climbing from the main street that curls around the tourist office and the hotels and restaurants behind the tourist office. The area surrounding the skating rink and the sports center is relatively flat and easy to traverse.

Alpe d'Huez has plans to install new people-mover lifts to make moving from the lower village to the upper village and the lift base easier. Currently, 70 percent of the accommodations are considered ski-in/ski-out.
